Fatshion Friday: Neutral Colorblock

It's that time again ladies and gents... Fatshion Friday! I've had to skip the last couple of Friday posts because of other engagements. Look out, I'm expanding my empire! More to come about some of the projects I'm working, including my experience at and review of SexyPlus Clothing in Toronto and my involvement at the International Fuller Woman Expo. I will be updating a lot this week with all of these new experiences under my belt. For now, I will focus on my 'Fatshion Friday' post, but stay tuned!

This past Monday was my university graduation, an important milestone in my life that I knew I couldn't miss.. or miss the opportunity of looking great at.  Graduations often draw in a lot of family, and you know what family means, LOTS of pictures! I like to think I'm a natural in front of the camera and I love being in the spotlight, so I thrive in situations like these. However, I knew in order to work the camera, I had to look good from all angles and wear something I was comfortable in. Every woman enjoys looking and feeling great once in a while, but for me this is something I like to emulate as much as possible. I love dressing up, especially after wearing my work uniform five days of the week. Additionally, being a plus size woman, I knew I was going to have to compete in the 'looks department' among a sea of thin women. I needed an outfit that accentuated my curves (in all the right ways), made me feel beautiful and confident and of course comfortable! I felt extremely comfortable wearing this for the entire day. I am usually so self-conscious about my arms and often wear a shrug or sweater to hide them; however, I felt so confident in this dress that I tossed the shrug aside! This is an amazing accomplishment for me because 9 times out of 10 I will wear that shrug even in extreme heat.

I stumbled upon this dress during my most recent trip to Buffalo, New York with my mom in April. Originally, my mom purchased this dress for herself, but after reevaluating she admitted it flattered my figure much more. The dress is a little heavy feeling, but it surprisingly wasn't too hot to wear (even under my gown). The dress was on sale at Nordstrom (currently unavailable but will possibly be re-stocked according to the website).

Things I love about the dress include: flattering empire waist, cinching belt, colourblocking, neutral, straps thick enough to cover bra straps, lined dress, anti-sweat/water absorbing material (perfect for summer). I only wish the dress came in other colour variations! Needless to say, I was very happy with how the dress and the photographs looked! I had an amazing day and felt wonderful in my new Calvin Klein dress! 100% confident!
