Makeup Monday: Essential Products

It's that time of the week again, Makeup Mondays and this week I actually have something to share with you all! I'm going to start off by saying that I have recently started experimenting with my makeup and trying new techniques I had difficulty with before, and I've actually had a bit of success doing so!

I had a woman approach me on the subway last week and ask me how I learned how to do my makeup. She asked me a lot of questions about different products, techniques, colour palettes and brushes. I explained to her that I taught myself how to do my own makeup, but received a few tips from my roommate who studies cosmetology in college.  I also expressed how the quality of the products used can really make a difference.

Usually I purchase a lot of my makeup at Sephora and buy brands such as: Benefit, Too Faced, Lancome, YSL, Dior, and of course, Sephora brand itself. I like to splurge on makeup that I know will last and have good reviews, so lately I've been staying away from local drugstore makeup. Recently, I decided that I wanted to experiment a bit more, so I didn't want to commit to the price of $30+ makeup products until I knew I could execute the desired outcome.

One technique I always wanted to master was liquid liner and wings, but I never had the patience or the precision to line my eyes. I started off using Rimmel Gel Liner in Very Black which was quite easy for beginners like me. However, I found that it took a long time to dry and when I closed my eyes or blinked, it bled onto the top of the lids and I had to clean it up. After that, I went back to the drugstore and purchased Line Stiletto by Maybelline in Jet Black. I have to say, this product is God-sent! It makes it so easy to do liquid liner on my lids because it's so smooth (not too liquidy) and it's extremely precise. The only criticisms I have is that the applicator dries quick so you have to shake it between each swipe, and it doesn't make thick lines very easily (i.e. stiletto). Other than that, it's perfect!

Another new product I have tried lately is the Too Faced LashGasm Mascara which is amazing. Honestly, I think it's the best mascara I've ever used. Previously, I was using Diorshow in Dark Brown (which I also loved) but it can no longer compare to LashGasm. Lashgasm gives me the longest, fullest and most dramatic lashes I've ever had. However, if volume is what you're looking for, LashGasm isn't the mascara for you. You can see more pictures and my review of other Too Faced Products HERE on my blog!

Finally, I've tried out quite a few brow fillers this summer because I'm never satisfied with how my brow ladies do my brows (perhaps I should find a new place and make a blog post about my experience). For the most of the summer, I was using Lancome's brow gel in Brunette, but one day I decided to pull out my old Sephora brow pencil in Rich Chestnut and fill in my brows a bit more naturally. That day, I received so many compliments on my brows, so I decided to put the halt on the bold brow that Lancome's product gives me. Unfortunately, my Sephora brow pencil was running low, so last week I went out and picked up a new one for $15.
