2013: My Blogging Year in Review

Image
Since it's always fun to jump on the bandwagon when everyone else is doing something, I too decided to summarize my year of blogging for you as we approach 2014 at midnight tonight!
First off, I have to say that this year has been a truly amazing one for me. I have accomplished so much with the help of so many lovely individuals, and I truly owe a lot of my success thus far to these unofficial sponsors of my life and blog! I only hope that 2014 brings me as much success and happiness as 2013 and that I can continue to expand Erica Exposed to be a major Canadian plus fashion blog!
What I accomplished in 2013: Started blogging officially and transitioned my blog from a Tumblr account to BloggerTook on a new persona and transformed myself from Big and the Beautiful to Erica Exposed (and registered my first domain name!Started doing some plus size modelling in Toronto, including:
- Walked in my first adult fashion show: The Fuller Woman Expo (Fun Fact: I was a child model!)
- Took part …

12 Days of Curvemas: 12 Heads a Turning

Image
It's the final day of Curvemas, and I have to say that I am sad to see it go! These last twelve days have been extremely challenging for me; however, I have had so much fun blogging each day of outfits for you. These series of posts have kept me on my toes and encouraged me to blog more often, which is something I should probably do regardless. I am a Master's student though, so the school year does tend to get extremely busy and stressful... but that is my New Years Resolution to you, to blog more frequently.
For today's post, I am delighted to feature one of my favourite Canadian designers, Nina Bitton (my blog post about their launch party here) that is now available at Gussied Up+ in Toronto. Honestly, when Victoria (the owner of Gussied Up) suggested that I try on the Olivia dress by Nina Bitton, I was a bit hesitant. I know that NB uses a fit model 16 and I am an 18/20 so I was nervous about how the 18  or 20 would fit me. After slipping on the Olivia with a bit of …

12 Days of Curvemas: 11 Boys a Staring

Image
It's the 11th day of Curvemas and I can't believe that these last couple weeks have been moving so quickly! Unfortunately, tomorrow is going to be the 12th day of Curvemas, but I have a gorgeous outfit saved to show you all tomorrow!
Since it's Friday night, today's featured outfit from Gussied Up+ is perfect for a last-minute holiday party or night on the town! I saw the dress (available here) I'm wearing online before I saw it in-store, and I knew it would end up in my wardrobe. If you're in need of an awesome holiday dress that can also be worn to work (that's how I justified it anyway), I would definitely recommend this one from Gussied Up. It has a high neck, so it is a bit more winterized than the average dress, which is pretty cool. It also comes in your choice of black or wine (obviously I chose wine) which is great. The only thing I would have to say about the dress, is definitely size up if you are busty. The 2X fit me in the waist, but so did th…

12 Days of Curvemas: 10 Sparkles Gleaming

Image
It's Day 10 of Curvemas, which only means I have another great style to feature today from Gussied Up+ in Toronto. For today's post, I decided to pick an outfit that is work appropriate (as it is a Thursday) but can also be worn after work to a holiday dinner or drinks with friends. It's super versatile, but it is also very unique (which I love!). I was immediately drawn to this black high-low peplum top (available here) when I visited the store. I'm on the hunt for a seriously H-O-T New Years outfit, and I have to say that this top was definitely a contender. I ended up opting for tomorrow's outfit though, so you'll have to visit the blog again tomorrow to see that! I added the same jeans from yesterday's post, because they aren't too casual, or too formal, which add to the outfit's versatility. I also decided to pair the top with the F3 Tuxedo Blazer (available here). As you may know, I love F3 designs (see me in their leather stripe leggings her…

12 Days of Curvemas: 9 Snowflakes Falling

Image
I can't believe it's the 9th Day of Curvemas and I'm beginning the holiday collection from the final boutique, Gussied Up+. Until last week, I had never actually had the opportunity to visit Gussied Up, located in the Annex at 1090 Bathurst Street in Toronto. Somehow, I was just never in the area at the right time to visit the store, so all of my browsing (and coveting) was done online.. until now! Last Wednesday, Victoria (the store owner) invited me to the store so I could review some of the pieces from Holiday 2013. We also had time to do a little photoshoot so I could show off my holiday picks to all you wonderful viewers!
I saw this sweater (available here) when I was browsing online and I fell in love. I knew I had to try it on! I actually had an "ugly sweater" Christmas party last Friday with my roommate and I totally would have bought this to wear, had the word "ugly" not been in our theme title! The sweater actually comes in a O/S fits all, wh…

12 Days of Curvemas: 8 Studs a Showing

Image
It's the 8th day of Curvemas, and what did your true love give to you today? My true love (myself hehe) gave to me this gorgeous New Look jacket, available at Your Big Sisters Closet! Seriously though, I purchased this jacket after trying it on. It's absolutely stunning on. I was pleasantly surprised of how the jacket fit me in the body AND in the sleeves. Usually what fits me in the body is way too tight in the sleeves, unless I buy a jacket way bigger than I need it to be. The front and back panels of the jacket are leatherette, however the sleeves are a cloth material. I was a bit unsure about purchasing it because of this at first, but in all honesty, you really can't tell that they're very different. My favourite feature of the jacket would have to be the studs on the shoulders. They're actually a rounded stud, not a pointy one, so they won't get caught on anything!
To complete the look, I paired the jacket with a plain black cami (available in store) and…

12 Days of Curvemas: 7 Weekdays Beginning

Image
Do you know what today is? It's the 7th day of Curvemas! It is also my 50th blog post on Erica Exposed, and unfortunately it is also a Monday! For most, Monday's mean it's back to work for the week until that glorious Friday evening. To put you in the mood for your Monday, I'm wearing a casual outfit from Your Big Sister's Closet that is definitely work appropriate. Seriously, a crisp pair of jeans can often be worn on days other than casual Friday, especially if they're worn like this! Often, employers just don't want their employees to look too casual. However, there's nothing about this outfit that screams "Casual Friday" to me, it says, "chic curvy fashionista"!
I am actually in love with this outfit. I was pleasantly surprised by the top (available here), I thought it would look unflattering on me, but in fact it was the total opposite. I actually think it is extremely slimming!  I did have to size up 2 sizes in the jeans (avai…

12 Days of Curvemas: 6 Holiday Parties

Image
Merry Curvemas! It's the 6th day today, and of course I'm showcasing another gorgeous outfit! Today's outfit (or should I say, outfits) again come from Your Big Sister's Closet.
I was thrilled when Karen suggested that I try on one of the Icon Series dresses, the Audrey (a style favourite of Audrey Hepburn of course!) I expected the fit and flare style to be flattering, but definitely not this flattering! I was amazed by my silhouette in this dress, which I only loved more when I layered a black petticoat underneath it (available here). I did choose to style it without the belt, but each dress does come with one. This dress is perfect for the holiday season, but it's definitely a staple to have in your closet for any occasion, especially in black. Lately, I've been loving burgundy though, so I couldn't resist trying it on as well. I must say, I love how it compliments my golden hair. Both the burgundy and black Audrey dresses are available for purchase he…

12 Days of Curvemas: 5 Leather Cutouts

Image
It's day 5 of Curvemas, and I am delighted to share with you some of the wonderful styles that are currently available at Your Big Sister's Closet, located at 3126 Dundas St. West in Toronto. I think this visit was my 3rd or 4th visit to the store this year, considering how I have known the owner, Karen (of Curvy Canadian) since March. I also had the opportunity to model for Your Big Sister's Closet at the Fuller Woman Expo earlier this year (see here for the FWE post), so I was excited to see Karen and her hubby Peter again. Peter was gracious enough to offer taking some photos of me, which turned out amazingly!
I had an awesome time browsing the store, selecting some outfits to try on an being photographed in them for this blog set. I love how I can walk into the store and be attracted to almost everything in there, and it's so effortless to find an ensemble that I love! I find it pretty rare that I walk into a store, and be attracted to almost everything lately. Yo…

12 Days of Curvemas: 4 Sequins Shining

Image
It's the final day of Curvemas, and I've saved my favourite outfit from SexyPlus Clothing for this fine Friday night. Tonight I'm hosting a Christmas party, a perfect opportunity to wear such a festive dress. This Joseph Ribkoff dress (found here) is honestly amazing. It's so flattering, and surprisingly I was able to go a size down in the dress (which is definitely a plus)! I love how the peplum hits me at the most perfect spot (where I'm most self-conscious) and the sheer cut out at the top. Remember, Joseph Ribkoff is 40% off at SexyPlus Clothing for the month of December, so get on that!
I can't wait for tomorrow's feature where I'm going to showcase 1 of 4 amazing outfits from Your Big Sister's Closet, who I had an amazing shoot with. Make sure to check it out tomorrow! Happy Holidays!

12 Days of Curvemas: 3 Fur Cuffs

Image
Can you believe it? Today is the 3rd day of Curvemas! The holidays are approaching so quickly, I'm running out of time to prepare everything for my big trip. That being said, I took some special time out of my day to showcase two more awesome pieces available at SexyPlus Clothing! Let me first say how much I love both of these pieces. I actually purchased the featured pants (found here) immediately after the shoot with Stefanie a few weeks ago, and I've worn them at least twice a week since! They are a great pair of pants because they're thick enough (not sheer in the bum) but they're still a true skinny fit so they look awesome tucked into boots. The Faux Fur Poncho by Joseph Ribkoff (pictured below) isn't something I'd normally go for, but I was so intrigued because the fur looks like a dalmatian print (Self disclosure: I absolutely adore dalmatians!). I was pleasantly surprised with the way it looked on me though because 9 times out of 10, Ribkoff pieces lo…

12 Days of Curvemas: 2 Matching Pieces

Image
My second day of christmas also features some amazing clothing from my first stop at SexyPlus Clothing! My second outfit today features a gorgeous black and gold coat & shirt set that is perfect for the holidays! Although it is not winterized, this jacket (found here) makes a wonderful addition to any holiday outfit, especially when paired with the matching Lorna top (found here)! This sophisticated combo is perfect for the office, especially on those days you have to make a transition from the office, right to night events! The sparkle and gold colour add a bit of holiday flare to the pieces. They could easily be paired with a skirt, similar to the Joseph Ribkoff one found here, or a simple pair of dark wash jeans or black slacks. Either way, this set is a a perfect holiday addition to your wardrobe. Available now at SexyPlus Clothing!
Stay tuned for my next outfit by SexyPlus, tomorrow on the blog!  Happy Holidays!

12 Days of Curvemas: 1 Purple Dress

Image
My first 12 Days of Curvemas stop was to Toronto plus size boutique, SexyPlus Clothing located at 901 Yonge Street. I have been to SexyPlus a few times (see my past review here) and I’m always excited to see what’s new in store! When I visited the store a couple weeks ago, I was excited to browse and pick out a few outfits to try on and photograph. I was so grateful when Stefanie, the owner of SexyPlus offered to take a few pictures of me with her professional camera.
Here I am wearing the purple Alexa Accordion dress (found here). This dress is appropriate for any workday of the week, but can also be dressed up and worn to an after work dinner party. This dress is perfect. It’s versatile, comfortable and best of all, inexpensive! Definitely receives my seal of approval!
Stay tuned for the next eleven consecutive days of Curvemas, which will last until Saturday December 21st when I leave for Florida. Happy Holidays!
