Sticking Out Like a Sore Thumb In NYC

This past week, I fulfilled a life long dream of mine to visit New York City. Even though I live relatively close to NYC and I had been to NY state many times, I had never been to the city before. Now being in my early twenties, I really felt like it was time for a more adult vacation. I needed to go somewhere with no agenda, minimal plans and a couple good friends for company. Visiting NYC made me realize that I want to do a big trip on my own, but I definitely don't have the funds to do that yet!

This time around, I spent three full days in the city and an extra bonus evening. I found that I had to make the most of this time, so I was constantly moving around the cold streets of NYC. The cold weather meant that a coat was necessary for comfort and warmth, and the amount of walking required in NYC is insane. I sported an awesome but oh so touristy coat from Penningtons. Most of the time, it just makes more sense to walk to and from destinations because taking transit is a bigger hassle. This proved to be a bit of a problem for me with my back/leg injury (that requires me to use a cane). As a result of this injury, I was forced to wear my comfortable, but not-so-attractive winter boots (available at Soft Moc) during most of my daily excursions. Oh well, c'est la vie. At least I had my Michael Kors cross-body bag to spruce up my appearance (similar here).

I found that these two items kept hindering my experience in NYC because I looked like a tourist everywhere I went. One of my tour guides that I met on my trip explained to me how New Yorkers are able to spot tourists, they wear coats and winter boots. Oh no, I've been exposed!
