"Moving Together" Addition Elle Event: Yoga for Round Bodies (Part Two)

Last month, I was fortunate enough to attend the second instalment of "Addition Elle Moves" at the Addition Elle flagship store in Toronto. The event was sponsored and hosted by Yoga for Round Bodies, which was founded by inspirational Yogi and business woman, Tiina Veer.

What I found the most encouraging about Tiina's story was that she was inspired to create Yoga for Round Bodies because of her own experience living as a curvy woman. Tiina worked extremely hard to create a space where all individuals feel comfortable practicing yoga. There is a common misconception that curvy women cannot or simply do not exercise. Tiina and Addition Elle have established a beautiful partnership in the hopes of dispelling this myth by promoting body positivity and health at every size. I was simply honoured to be a part of this movement, even for one day.  I have been inspired to challenge the societal misconceptions about the plus size community and address the and misrepresentation of plus size individuals in the media.

I had such an amazing time at the event. It was so inspiring to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of women who were eager to learn and try new things. I am a relatively seasoned Yogi myself (meaning I've taken my share of classes).. but I'm no guru! I tried out a few new positions, which was more than I expected! I am always looking for new ways to challenge myself. I strongly feel that just because I am plus size, I am not expected to be as flexible or athletic as other women.. this absolutely aggravates me. I consider myself to be extremely athletic and enjoy sports. That being said, it was amazing to learn from Tiina how to treat your body with the respect and love it deserves by taking it easy when you need to.

What a great group of ladies who came out to celebrate plus size fitness

I also had the privilege of writing the very first article in a new DARE Magazine column, called "Where was DARE?". Check it out HERE.
