Body Positivity and 'Size Sexy'

I was thrilled to be approached by entrepreneur, fashionista and Ms. Size Sexy herself, Tierra Sedgemore to promote body positivity with her new Size Sexy movement. As a social worker (my day-job!), I am constantly trying to fight back against the oppressive limitations that size discrimination has on society. I aim to initiate size discrimination as a human rights issue, in order to ensure that every person is treated respectfully and fairly despite their size and/or shape. I am extremely passionate about this issue, and I am working on the expansion of related research in the social work field.

"Don't be defined by your size. Be size sexy." - Tierra Sedgemore

I couldn't agree more. Too many times have I gotten hung up about the size on the label. I have avoided purchasing something, just because I didn't want to be defined as a size "up" from my usual. On the flip side, I have jumped for joy and ran to the cash register if something fit me that was a size or two smaller than my "norm". I have gotten so caught up in the number on the label,  that I didn't stop to think "Wow! I really don't need this", or sadly the opposite "I look fantastic in this, I should buy it". I feel that I resonate with the Size Sexy movement, because I truly believe that you can be sexy at ANY size.

Once, I stumbled upon a survey that asks, "Can overweight people still be sexy?" and I was appalled. OF COURSE we can. People of all shapes, sizes, heights, abilities, races, genders, etc. can be sexy. Why would my size ever limit my ability to have sex appeal? Answer: It doesn't. It simply does not have anything to do with it.

There are two ways to purchase your 'Size Sexy' apparel, which are through Tierra's personal website (here) and through SexyPlus Clothing in Mississauga. Currently, Size Sexy product only go up to a 2X. However, in conversation with Tierra Sedgemore, she revealed to me that she is planning to expand sizing to at least a 3X, with hopes of adding a 4X to the mix.
