Makeup Monday: W3LL People Cosmetics

I had intended to publish this post earlier, but unfortunately I've been extremely focused on my job interview that I have tomorrow. My apologies! I am working toward a more regular blogging schedule, thank you for being so patient!

In February, I attended a blogger event at The Detox Market in Toronto. The Detox Market is located 367 King Street West in Toronto, and is its only location outside of the original in West Hollywood. The Detox Market is committed to delivering products to their consumers that are natural and healthy. The Detox Market surprised us with a group session with Nars veteran and makeup guru, Shirley Pinkson.

Shirley & Myself
Shirley is 1/3 of the W3LL People beauty brand (sold exclusively in Canada at the DM). To quote the company itself, W3LL People is "an uncommon beauty dream founded by an elite makeup artist, cosmetic dermatologist and treehugging entrepreneur". All products are made using only natural ingredients and provide a great example of how quality makeup can be made from such ingredients.

Shirley's makeup expertise and extensive employment history made her the ideal individual to develop natural products that perform just as well as mainstream and our favourite products. For example, W3LL people's setting powder is quite comparable to Makeup Forever's HD Setting powder. Shirley shared her story and amazing make up tips with us, and even provided a demo on a model chosen out of the audience.

I finally had the time to try out the products I picked up and I was certainly impressed. I was pleasantly surprised by the formula of the Expressionist mascara. Due to the fact that it is made with natural ingredients, I wasn't sure if the product would be as volumizing/lengthening/separating as major competitors. The mascara is designed to be your day-to-day mascara, and as a result it is not particularly volumizing. Even though it is not volumizing, it is quite lengthening and it beautifully separates your lashes. Finally, I have found a product that isn't clumpy and actually separates my strangely-stuck-together-eyelashes. My new daily go-to mascara.

I am absolutely obsessed with the Universalist Multiuse Colorstick (my shade #3 Berry Aubergine). When used as a blush, it adds a perfect flush to your cheeks without making you look like you're straight out of an 80s workout video! As it is multi-purpose, you could certainly use the stick for lip and eye colour as well if so desired.

I knew I had to try the Narcissist Foundation Stick when I saw Shirley demonstrate its multiple uses
on her model. The Narcissist was sold out in my shade #1 Fair Pink on the event day, so I went back for it recently! If I had to choose between products, I do prefer the Universalist Stick and the Expressionist Mascara more than the Narcissist Foundation Stick. However, this may be due to the fact that I'm not using it correctly (yet!). In Shirley's demo, she made her model's face look like a masterpiece using the Narcissist stick - good for coverage, contour and highlighting. My next mission is to master the Narcissist Foundation Stick. I will report back soon with updates ;)
