Plus Size Athleisure: USA Simply Be Launch

Announcement: I know it's been a while since I have posted on here, for which I offer my sincere apologies. I have mentioned that I have been experiencing some ongoing health issues, since my surgery. Health will always be my first priority and it seems that it has been consuming my life lately. I try to stay more updated on my Instagram, which typically requires a few less spoons (see: Spoon Theory). Now, onto scheduled programming....

Simply Be is a size-inclusive company (sizes 6-32 US) that have been designing beautiful and affordable fashion in the UK for nearly two decades. Recently, I was informed that Simply Be has just re-branded exclusively for the United States! The US campaign features two prominent gorgeous curve models: Natalie Nootenboom & Sarina Nowak.

Currently, Simply Be offers shipping to the following locations: United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States. For now, this is a relatively small list; however, Simply Be intends on expanding to Australia and South Africa later this year. I hope that Canada is not far behind! For my fellow Canadians: it is a hassle to have items shipped to friends or an American P/O box, I get it. This kind of stings a little (as a Canadian), but Simply Be was kind enough to provide me with a couple items to try out and review. I have always wanted to shop at Simply Be, so naturally I agreed!
You might remember my "Plus Size Activewear" posts from the Spring, which I took a break from due to major physical restrictions. Long story short: I spend a lot of my time at the gym or just generally being active as rehabilitation. I have been essentially living in athleisure and activewear for the last 1.5 years. My new fashion motto: the comfier, the better!

Simply Be actually recognized this and offered to send me some athleisure (along with swimwear - coming soon!), which was very kind of them. I chose this colourblocked pullover sweater from their athleisure collection because I knew I'd get some great use out of it. I knew if I chose a dress or any "festival wear" that the items would probably hang out in my closet 90% of the year. In choosing this sweater, I have ensured this won't happen.

Honestly, this is probably the comfiest and cutest pullover I own! It is a Poly-Cotton blend which I have been able to machine wash (air dry) without any issues. I was a bit nervous about the sizing and fit because I had never ordered from Simply Be before! I have been fluctuating between a Size 20 & 22 in shirts/sweaters since last Summer, but still struggle with knowing where I fit on the continuum. I ordered the Size 20 based on the size guide, but then almost second guessed myself. I was hoping for it to be a bit oversized and was worried that "sizing down" would mean I'd lose this effect. To my surprise, the sweater fit like an absolute dream. It was a perfect fit over my broad shoulders, but not too big in the arms and it was just roomy enough in the torso. Best of all is the price though, only $20USD right now on sale (shop it here).

I had worn and shot this look a while ago, while it was still sweater weather and before I re-injured myself, becoming temporarily out of commission. Here in Canada, the weather has been a bit confused lately. Even though Summer officially began today, the weather has been so hot and cold (pun intended). Sunday and Monday this week were the hottest days of the year so far and broke temperature records; meanwhile, I've needed a sweater these past three days. During Summer, I usually wear as little clothing as possible (i.e. shorts and a tank top) due to my superpower... which is to overheat and start sweating within minutes. Still, on days like today, I can definitely use a sweater.
I quickly just want to shoutout these 'Royalty for Me' jeans that I picked up for $15 recently. After some investigation, I believe that they are actually Junior Plus. However, in what I believe to be their "hyperstretch" material, I wear a Size 18 - which honestly surprised me for Jr. Plus!
